Dr. Alexandra Roy
Dr Alexandra Roy is an Ottawa native and remained here throughout her training, choosing the University of Ottawa for both her graduate and post-graduate training.
She obtained an Honours BSc in Biochemistry in 2005. She continued on with studies in Medicine and was awarded a Medical Degree in 2009.
She then completed her residency in Family Medicine through the French stream of the University of Ottawa training program, affiliated with the Montfort Hospital.
Dr Alexandra Roy enjoys the broad scope of community Family Medicine. In addition to French and English, she is able to communicate effectively in both German and Spanish. She has had a general practice in the south of Ottawa since 2012.
Dr. Kathryn Morneau
Dr Kathryn Morneau was born in Ottawa, She moved to Toronto where she graduated from York University with an Honours Degree in Economics and English then went on to complete a Medical Degree from the University of Toronto.
She was on staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, ON where she practiced family and emergency medicine for 25 years. She moved back to her hometown in 2012 to practice family medicine in the south of Ottawa.
Dr. Cathy Lyen
Dr. Cathy Lyen attended the University of Ottawa where she received undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology. She went on to study medicine at the University of Ottawa where she earned her medical degree. She then completed her residency in family medicine followed by a fellowship in the Care of the Elderly Program at Queen’s University.
Dr. Lyen has experience working in community family medicine and geriatrics. She has been practicing medicine in Ottawa since 2010. She has had a general family medicine practice in the south of Ottawa since 2012.
Dr. Rebecca Gibson
Dr Rebecca Gibson attended the University of Waterloo for four years, completing an Honours Bachelor of Sciences degree. She completed a year of french language studies at Laval University before starting medical school at the University of Ottawa in 2001.
Dr Gibson completed her residency in Family medicine both at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury, as well as at the University of Ottawa. She was licensed for independent practice in 2008.
Dr Gibson has experience working in community family medicine and sexual health. She has had a general family practice in south Ottawa since 2012.
Dr. Alison Barnes
Dr Alison Barnes graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2004. She went on to receive her medical degree from Queen’s University. Following this, she moved to Ottawa and completed three years of general surgical training prior to completing her family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa.
Dr Barnes has worked as a locum physician in Ottawa for the past two years. She has experience in community family medicine and office-based surgical procedures. She also holds privileges at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, where she is involved as a surgical assistant.
Dr. Marc Brulotte
Dr. Marc Brulotte graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science with specialization in biochemistry in 2006, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2010, and then pursued a residency in family medicine with training in obstetrics at the Montfort Hospital, all through the University of Ottawa.
Dr Brulotte has a very diversified practice, with special interests in obstetrics, paediatric care and family planning. He is also an active member of the medical staff at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital, where he participates in obstetrical and paediatric care, as well as OR-assistance.
Being affiliated with the University of Ottawa’s department of Family Medicine preceptorship program, Dr. Brulotte is active in medical education and welcomes medical students to his family practice clinic. He also has privileges at the Montfort Hospital where he is a preceptor to Family Medicine residents.
Dr. Brulotte also has been performing infant circumcisions in clinic since 2012. As part of his special interest in family planning, Dr. Brulotte received formal training in No-Needle No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NNNSV) from Dr. Douglas Stein, a world leader in No-Scalpel Vasectomy International (NSVI), and urological surgeon in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Amina Shamsie
Dr. Amina Shamsie completed an Honours B.Sc. in Physiology and Psychology at the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario. She received her medical degree from the University of Toronto. She then moved to Ottawa for her Family Medicine training at the University of Ottawa.
Prior to starting her own practice, Dr. Shamsie did a 3 month fellowship in Developmental Paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Dr. Shamsie began her family medicine practice in the Hunt Club area in 1996 and has been enjoying caring for her patients ever since.
Dr. Karlene Smith
Dr Karlene Smith attended Queen's University to complete her Bachelor degree in Life Sciences. She then completed a Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2005, followed by a Medical Degree in 2009.
She continued her medical studies in Ottawa and completed her residency training and certification in Family Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Smith has experience working in community family medicine and community palliative care. She has had a general family practice in south Ottawa since 2012.
Dr. Elise Azzi
Dr. Elise Azzi graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours in Biomedical Sciences) in 2012, received her Doctorate of Medicine in 2016, and completed her Family Medicine Residency in 2018. She then pursued an Enhanced Skills in Women’s Health Fellowship in 2019. She attended the University of Ottawa for all her medical training.
Dr. Azzi took over the practice of Dr. Carlynne Kobewka and Dr. Sarah Brigham at South Ottawa Medical Centre in 2020. She speaks English, French and Arabic. Her special interests include women’s health, sexual health, medical education, leadership and advocacy.
Dr. Edwin Spence
Dr Edwin Spence attended the University of The Orange Free State for 8 years studying Bachelor of Science and Biology followed by Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery graduating MBChB in 1996.
He completed his year of residency in Shongwe mission hospital on the border of Swaziland and South Africa and then proceeded to work in the United Kingdom as a resident medical officer for one year in the Birmingham and Warwickshire Nuffield Hospitals.
He moved to Canada in 1999 working in Manitoba for twelve years in private practice as well as providing community cancer care services and performing hospital and emergency room services for the local community hospital in Pinawa.
Dr Spence moved to Ottawa in 2011 working in family practice in Nepean and Findlay Creek as well as emergency room services in the Renfrew and Perth hospitals in the Ottawa Area.
