Uninsured Services

 We are fortunate in this province to have access to health care paid for by the Ministry of Health through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).  As our population ages, the cost of health care continues to rise, and more services are not funded by the Ministry.  These uninsured services require significant time and resources to administer.

The demand for these services has increased exponentially in the past few years.  In the face of rising office expenses and government cuts, we are unable to provide these services free of charge.  

Please see the attached list of services and fees, which are in accordance with the fee schedule recommended by the Ontario Medical Association.

 

This is the summarized list of significant changes:

  1. Notes for massage, physiotherapy, chiropractic, orthotic inserts, etc, when not medically prescribed, are now subject to a $10 fee per item.

  2. Prescription renewals without an appointment cost $15; (This fee applies per fax – one medication or multiple can be renewed for the same cost.)  Patients may arrange to renew their medications during regularly scheduled medical assessments.  Fit in appointments exclusively for medication renewals will not be accepted.  

  3. Patient portal access will cost $10/year for an individual, or $30/year for a family .


***Payment will be required for all notes and renewals prior to the note or renewal being sent***

Annual Block Fee

As you know, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) pays for most of your medical visits.
However, some medical procedures and most administrative services are not insured by OHIP. 
These services are still provided by our office but require significant time and resources to administer.  In order to maintain the highest standard of care, payment for these services has become the responsibility of either the patient themselves or the agency requesting the service.

It is our office policy to charge for uninsured services in accordance with the guidelines of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 

There are two ways for patients to pay for uninsured services:
Option 1: You may pay for each uninsured service at the time it is provided.
Option 2: You may pay for an Annual Block Fee for uninsured services (This includes prescription renewals by fax or phone to the pharmacy of your choice).

Block fees:       
$90.00    Individual plan              
$150.00  Couple plan                              
$80.00    Senior individual plan (65+)    
$135.00  Senior couple plan (65+)         
$180.00  Family plan  (includes all children 18 yrs old or under)        

                
 Should you choose the Annual Block Fee option,  you can pay for a full 12 months of coverage at any time during the year.

Whether you choose to pay for individual uninsured services or for the comprehensive Annual Block Fee is entirely at your discretion and will in no way affect your care at any time.
